Elkhart Lake, Wisc.  (24 June 2015) – There is little that Guy Cosmo enjoys more than trying something new, particularly when that something new is fast.

This weekend at Road America, Cosmo will team with young Patrick Byrne to make his debut in Maserati Trofeo competition.

The single-make series utilizes a race-prepared version of the Maserati GranTurismo MC Trofeo, with the championship featuring six race weekends staged across the globe. After opening the season in Europe with events at Paul Ricard and the Red Bull Ring, this weekend’s Road America Maserati Trofeo races will be followed by another American round at Virginia International Raceway in August.

Cosmo and Byrne have worked extensively together, with Cosmo having first coached Byrne in Ferrari Challenge competition. The duo also has experience racing together as co-drivers, most recently in IMSA TUDOR United SportsCar Championship competition as Byrne made an impressive debut, scoring fourth on the GTD class grid in his first-ever run aboard the Audi R8 LMS for Flying Lizard.

“I think this is going to be a lot of fun,” said Cosmo.  “It doesn’t matter what you drive, racing anything at Road America is a blast, so I am particularly eager to drive the Maserati this weekend. I think Patrick (Byrne) really raised some eyebrows with the job that he did in the Audi at Laguna and it is great to have the chance to team up with him again.”

Byrne, who is currently on a championship trajectory in Spec Ford competition with a remarkable nine podiums in 12 races,  also has experience behind the wheel of the Maserati GranTurismo MC Trofeo. The youngster took home podium finishes in both of  his outings in the series in 2013 and 2014.  The Road America weekend, which is being staged as part of the big Pirelli World Challenge event, will feature two 42-minute races for Cosmo and Bryne.

“This is a little bit different format than the series has used in the past, but Patrick (Byrne) already has experience in these cars and that should be a big help for us this weekend,” said Cosmo. “I’m excited to be getting this opportunity and hopefully we can come out of the weekend with some big results.”
