Jan Magnussen, who competes in select Grand-Am racing events, is a race driver of enormous success and formidable achievements. He's raced Grand-Am, Formula One, Champ Car and other road racing series and has won races consistently. He was voted 2005 Danish Racing Driver of the Year for his 11 victories in four different series.

But if you were competing in a trivia contest on Danish racing trivia, Jan Magnussen is not the answer to the following questions:

Q: Who won the 1999 European Scandinavian Formula Ford 2000 championship driving for Team Denmark?

A: Jason Workman

Q: Who finished second in the 2000 European Scandinavian Formula Ford 2000 championship driving for Team Denmark?

A: Guy Cosmo

Few people realize that during the turn of the millennium, two young American drivers were cutting their professional teeth driving far from home in the Scandinavian Formula Ford Championship. Not only were they competing, both drivers were finding the success that is so often missing when Americans compete in European championships. Few have had their success and fewer still have brought home a European crown.

Grand-Am drivers, Jason Workman in 1999 and Guy Cosmo in 2000 accepted the challenge and far exceeded the expectations of the European fans. Workman was crowned Scandinavian Formula Ford 2000 Champion with eight wins, 10 podiums, 10 poles, five fastest laps and four lap records. No driver before or since has dominated the championship like Workman did in 1999.

In 2000, Cosmo was not far behind Workman's pace. With new equipment to sort out, Cosmo still managed to finish second in the championship with two race wins, two poles and 14 top-five finishes. By any standards, both drivers represented the red, white and blue in glowing fashion.

So while Magnussen was a Formula One driver, having served his apprenticeship by tearing up the tracks of England and winning the Formula Ford Festival and Formula Ford competitions, two young American drivers were sending shockwaves through Magnussen's home country of Denmark and the entire Scandinavian racing arena.

Magnussen may be Denmark's most established racing star, but Workman and Cosmo took the early lessons learned on the race tracks of Denmark and brought them home to the USA to establish formidable records of their own!
