Guy Cosmo Teams With Bobby Labonte For A Successful Night At Daytona
With qualifying cancelled, the starting grid for the evening race was established based on points. Starting for the first time in 2006, the #07 car was relegated to start in 26th position.
Always up for the challenge, Cosmo climbed in the car for the start. Despite tremendous heat and some unpredictable handling characteristics, Guy pushed his way through the field advancing several positions and ultimately up to 16th.
"I did alright in the car, it was really hot during my stint," said Cosmo. "It seemed like air was not getting back to me while in the car. At the start of the race I was able to avoid a lot of trouble and then started gaining spots on track."
Cosmo gained 10 spots on track during his stint before turning the car over to Labonte. With Cosmo and Labonte's efforts, the 07 DIRECTV/ MarineMax sponsored Pontiac was the most improved Daytona Prototype in the race.
"Bobby is a great guy and I like the experience I am gaining with him," noted Cosmo. "I hope there'll be other opportunities to work with him and the Spirit of Daytona team. I believe it was a positive experience for everyone involved and I think we gave DIRECTV and MarineMax a great showing."
Cosmo immediately left Daytona to join with his B-K Motorsports Team for the American Le Mans Series' New England Grand Prix at Lime Rock Park in Connecticut.
